Absurdistan Community is a group of friends, creating an interesting village and gardens and experimenting in a close communal way of living together. Couples and individuals have their own homes and we meet in the evenings to prepare food and eat our main meal of the day. The communal kitchen-cafe is the friendly practical hub of the village and has a small library and space to meet with others any time.
We are lucky to have a beautiful site on a peninsula of the Kaipara Harbour with wonderful views, clean sea air and a native bush walk to the beach. We are growing our own organic fruit and vegetables, planting lots of shelter and ornamental trees and plants, based on a permaculture design.
The village has been built with natural and sustainable materials as much as possible with inspiration to create a peaceful, harmonious living environment. Our octagonal, earthy community hall is featured in the photos.
We rely on rain water which is filtered and safe to drink. Organic personal and cleaning products are used here, as we care for and restore the land to be as eco-friendly as possible.
Meditation days with Zahira are offered from time to time during the year, often the last Sunday of the month. Open Days are organised every now and then and we enjoy participating in events of the wider surrounding community.
We have regular meetings to enable us to enjoy living and working together.
